(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Sept. 27.

Banking work on Matakarapa, which is being brought into cultivation under the Native land settlement scheme, is proceeding apace. Tho bank has been completed right round to tho eastern side and work is .now being carried out along that side facing tho town river bank. W. Hussey, tho local cyclist, competed in the 36-milo road raco from Levin to Te Horo and back on Saturday. From scratch ho put up the fastest time, doing the distance in 1 hour 31 minutes 55sec.

Mr Rasmussen, an employee of Whitaunui, Ltd., sustained a severe injury to his hand while engaged in flax-cutting in the company’s swamp. Ho was brought to Foxton, where he received medical attention and is now progressing satisfactorily. Tho School Committco is at present undertaking tho filling in of a large .concrete tank at tho back of tho school building as it is no longer required and is considered a menace to health.
