PAIIIATUA, Sept. 27. A large gathering of members of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and friends met yesterday afternoon at the home of the president (Mrs H. Paterson). The occasion was taken to farewell Mrs Sutherland and to welcome Miss McLay, one of the W.C.T.U. Dominion organisers. In farewelling Mrs Sutherland, the president, on behalf of the members, presented her with a set of silver pepper and salt dishes, at the same time thanked Mrs Sutherland for hor interest in and activities connected with the W.C.T.U., and wishing her much happiness in her new homo and sphere at Te Kuiti. Mrs H. A. Bick and Mrs M. F. Ryan rendered solos. Mrs Eckersley expressed the thanks of the guests to the hostess for the pleusant programme. For the benefit of pedestrians temporary lights have now been placed by the l’ahiatua County Council at the centre of the town traffic bridge, at the gangway crossing. A large number of anglers attendod the annual meeting of the lot-al club held last evening. Mr J. Robertson occupied the chair. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The latter showed the total receipts to have been £l6 7s, and the expenditure left a credit of £l2 2s 2d. The election of officers was proceeded with as follows: Patron, Mr Robertson; president, Mr J. Hutton; vice-presidents, Dr. Paterson, Messrs A. A. Vaughan, F. M. Gregorie, J. Byrne, G. 11. A. Darley, A. Pratt, G. 11. Taylor, Arch. Morgan, P. J. Matthews, S. F. Bailey, H. Beales, W. J. Feasey, W. Gainey, J. Finch, E. E. Etz, F. F. Barraclough, W. Beales, J. Gay, W. and A. C. Rowse, R. Merrie and D. 1). G. Lynch; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. 11. Taylor. It was decided to distribute 20,000 fry in each o ftlie following rivers: Makakahi, Mangahao, Makuri and Mangatainoka. It was also decided that tho limit of pheasant shooting bo increased to' two. Tho meeting placed on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered to tho club by Mr Hutton as secretary, and elected Mr Robertson, tho retiring president, a lifo member.
