EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” SEPTEMBER 16, 1902.
The Australian cricketers commenced the last match of tho tour in a game against the Players, who had the first strike. At the' close of the day’s play six wickets liad fallen for 282 __ runs (Quaile 06, Tylesley 50, Abel 35). Tho Wanganui Education Roard liad decided that plans be prepared and tenders called for the Palmerston North Technical School. The application of the Campbell Street School Committee for an enlargement of the school was referred to the building committee with power to act. High prices for stock were reported at the Jolmsonville sale where prime bullocks sold up to £l3 12s 6d, and sheep, all ewes, up to 17s 11s. A Greymouth message reported steers bringing £l7. , Representatives of the Farmers Union were invited to attend an enquiry to be conducted by a Government committee in regard to the frozen meat export trade. Artisans and labourers to the number of 2366 were being employed by the Government on co-operative works throughout the colony during tho month.
A new govser had broken out at Whakarewarewa and was throwing stories and mud to a height of 20ft. to noise. A New York message reported that Republicans of eleven States had decided to re-nominate President Roosetlie accompaniment of a rumbling velt for the Presidency.
