SUMMER SPORT.

NORTHERN CLUB. A meeting of the general committee of the Northern Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club was held in the pavilion last night, Mr J. C. Young, the president, being in the chair. Nominations for membership wero received from 17 tennis players and 3 croquet ladies and were accepted. It was decided to open the new season on Saturday, October 15. and the tennis section proposes to hold a flannel dance in the pavilion. It will bo remembered that members subscribed £42 early in May last and the money was used to put down a wooden floor in the pavilion. Already two ballots have been held to repay portion of the £42. Last night a further £6 was balloted for, leaving £l4 yet to be refunded. Tho success of the club dances, card evenings, etc., during the winter months has enabled the repayments to he made. Donations to the funds have been made by Messrs C. U. Plimmor, C. R. Beattie and R. H. Stallard. It was agreed to purchase equipment for the tea-room and the tennis and croquet sections ready for the new season. Mr R. McKee, ground supervisor, reported on the greens and asked for authority for further developments. Those present expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of the lawns, duo to the' work put in on them since last season. Under the direction of Mr R. Moxon a very fine shelter has been erected for tho bowlers adjoining tho bowling green. The scats have all been painted and the grounds will he in excellent order for the opening day, it was reported. Accounts totalling £l4 were passed for payment.
