BRITISH UNEMPLOYED

DECREASE IN NUMBER. LABOUR CENSURE MOTION. “HOLLOW AND UNREAL.” (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received June 25, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, June 24. The Opposition’s vote of censure in the House of Commons was based, on the continuance of a high rate of unemployment, it being alleged that the tariff policy was calculated to maintain unemployment. The Minister of Labour - , Sir Henry Betterton, replying to the debate, said that lie had never heard a motion of censure so hollow and so unreal. The production of the country was increasing after the decline in 1931, and it now had recovered the whole of the ground lost last year. Whereas unemployment had increased under Labour, it had decreased under tho National Government, which was providing £100,000,000 a year for the relief of unemployment. The censure motion was defeated by 446 votes to 47.
