LOCAL BODY WAGES.
SUBSIDY QUESTION. CONFERENCE AT FEILDING. For the purpose of discussing a circular letter from the Main Highways Board with reference to the wages which should be paid to local body employees to earn subsidies from the board, a conference of local bodies of No. 9 and No. 10 highways districts was held at Feilding yesterday afternoon.
The authorities represented were the Horowhenua, Kairanga, Manawatu, Pohangina, Kiwitea, Oroua and Rangitikei county councils and Mr W. E. Barber, chairman of the Manawatu County Council, was elected to the chair.
The ensuing discussion, which was held in committee, covered all aspects of the question and it was finally decided that the matter be left in the hands of the chairman of each local body represented to take up with the respective councils.
