PAHIATUA, April 19. Nurse Nancy Brundle, of Napier, has been spending a few'days as the guest of Mrs Gordon Smith, liamua. Mr S. Bolton is a visitor to Wellington. Mr Cliff Porter, former captain of the All Blacks, was on a business visit to Pahiatua to-day. Miss M. Moriarty, supervisor of the local telephone exchange, is spending her leave in Hastings. Mr V. J. Scott is actingsupervisor in her absence. Mr E. Anderson, formerly of the Pahiatua Post Office staff, has been transferred from Whakatane to Otaki. Mrs Anderson is spending a few days in Pahiatua with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. I). Donald. Playing on Mr W. Henry Booth’s ninehole course at Middle Run, Mr J. Steel, of Carterton, holed out in one and 154 yards. The monthly meeting of the Ballance W.I. was held on Wednesday last. Owing to the rough weather the attendance was not so large as usual. Mrs Windle and Mrs Jones were appointed delegatee to attend the annual Council meeting at Palmerston North. At the request of new members a demonstration on raffia basketmaking was given by Miss Jessie Bremner. The competition for the prettiest linen handmade handkerchief was won by Mrs Windle. Members also exchanged cooking recipes. Arrangements were finalised for the holding of a concert and dance towards the end of the month. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Windle, Miss T. Jones and Mis 3 A. McCarthy. PAHIATUA, April 20.

Mr and Mrs G. F. Stock, of Seatoun, Wellington, -were the guests of Mr and Mrs w. D. Taylor, “Mironui,” this week. Mrs Ij. Cornelius, of Mangahao, is a visitor to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs H. McSherry and Miss McSherry have been spending the past few weeks on a motor tour of the North Island. Nurse Lee, of the Department of Health, paid an official visit yesterday to the Pahiatua Dental Clinic. Mr D. Pearce, of Massey College, was the guest this week of Mr and Mrs W. D. Taylor, Mangatainoka. Miss F. Richardson Wellington, is the guest of her sister, Mrs A. Knox, Kaitawa. Miss Peggy Lowes has returned from a fortnight’s holiday at Rotorua and Lake Taupo. At the Pahiatua District High School on Monday, during the lunch-hours, Thelma Riley, aged seven years, was playing on the horizontal bars when she fell to the ground and dislocated her elbow. Mr D. O’Brien has a very fine record for school committee work. He has been associated with the Scarborough (Mangamutu) committee for 40 years, for 30 of which he lias been chairman. The monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Women’s Institute was held yesterday afternoon in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Sunday schoolroom. As no president had been elected at tho annual meeting one of the vide-prosidents, Miss C. MoKewiy, was voted to the chair. She then called for nominations for the office of president for the ensuing year and Mrs J. D. G. Crewe proposed Mrs W. L. Tattle. This was seconded by Mrs W. Harrison and carried unanimously. As Mrs Tattle was one of the vice-presidents the vacancy created by her elevation had to be filled, and Mrs J. D Wilson was appointed a vice-president. On April 6, at the Roman Catholic Church, Pahiatua, the wedding was solemnised between Rita Madge, second daughter of Airs A. L. Martin, Pahiatua, and the late Mr P. H. Martin, of Greymouth, and Henry second son of Mr H. Dillon and the late Airs K. Dillon, of Rangatiti (Pongaroa) Rev. Father Doherty (Eketahuna) officiated. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her uncle, Mr C. Garliok, looked very charming m a pale blue satin frock, the skirt of which reached nearly to the ankle length, being made of row upon row of tiny frills. Tho bodice was finished with a smart little coatee of the same material as her frock. She also wore a white tulle veil with a bandeaux &f orange blossom, and silver shoes and stockings to tone. She carried a beautiful bouquet of white chysanthemums and maiden hair fern, with long white satin streomers.
