FLOWER SHOW. WOOHVILLE, April 20. There was a fine display of blooms at tho first annual show of the Woodville Chrysanthemum Club to-day, reflecting credit on Mr C. Wright (the president), Mr L. Hurley (secretary) and the committee. Tho judge, Mr A. W. Hamilton, of Palliatua, commented very favourably on the exhibits, stating that tuken right through tho blooms were exceptionally fine. Ho considered that the champion bloom was the bost he had ever seen. The prize list is as follows:

Novice Section.—Four district Japanese varieties.—Mr F. Shearman 1 and 2, Mr Brice 3; five entries. Ono bloom, white: Mr F. Shearman 1 and 2. One bloom, yellow or cream : Mr F. Shearman 1 and 2, Mrs Robinson 3; four entries. Ono bloom, pink: Mr F. Shearman 1 and 2, Mrs Robinson 3. One bloom, bronze: Mr F. Shearman 1 and 2. One bloom, red or crimson: Mr F. Shearman 1 and 2, Mrs Single 3; five entries. Ono bloom, any colour, not scheduled: Mrs Brice 1, Mrs Single 2.

This bloom, a “Louisa Pockett,” was a magnificent specimen measuring 12 inches across. The runner-up, K. Better, exhibit cd a “Woodside,” also, a very wonderful specimen. Champion pink: K. Better. Champion bronze: L. Hurley. Champion red or crimson : L. Hurley. Champion, any other colour: L. Hurley. Points prize in novico class: F. Shearman. Points prize in amateur class: L. Hurley 22, S. Turnbull 20.

Rev. G. Knowles-Smith and Mrs Knowles-Smith have arrived in Woodville. The induction of Rev. Mr Knowles-Smith to the local circuit will take plaoe in the Methodist Church this evening.

The monthly meeting of the Papatawa Women’s Institute was held on Saturday afternoon, with an attendance of twenty-six members. It was decided to send a delegate to the Dominion Conference in Wellington in July, also one to the Hawke’s Bay Annual Council meeting on the 26th inst. Mrs Harrison, of Pahiatua, gavo an instructive talk on the making of soft toys. Sho also showed wool work, home-made rugs, and other novelties and at the conclusion was accorded a hearty vote of thanks by all members, who thoroughly appreciated the demonstration. A competition for plain scones was won by Mrs W. Cunningham. Afternoon tea, served by the hostesses, Mesdames Chapman and Burlace, and Miss Taylor, concluded an enjdyable afternoon.
