(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, April 18. The tangi for tho late Mr Homa to Ao, which has boon in progress for tho past eight days, lias practically concluded, large numbers of Natives having returned to their homes. Tho/basket was borne from Raukawa by a number of Natives to the church, where an impressive service was held. Tho attendance was estimated at about 700. After tho burial many returned to tho meeting-house where further speeches were delivered, and selections played by the Otaki Brass Band. Among those present were Mr W. H. Field, M.P., and Mr Taito te Tomo M.P. A fire during the week destroyed the residence and contents of Mr D. Blackmore, who is at present in the Palmerston North Hospital. As tho result of a shop day held by the 1.0.0. F. Lodge on Saturday the sum of £9 was raised for hall building purposes. Unemployed waited on Mr Field, M.P., on Saturday and placed grievances before him. They considered the allocation of work insufficient to keep them going, while rations were also inadequate and at times unsuitable. It was stated that one man with a wife and family of ton children received rations to the value of about 5s weekly. . A number of city unemployed aro at present stone-picking at Hautere. It is expected that the number will reach fifty by Wednesday. Already seventeen tents and a large marquee have been erected. Khandallah bowlers visited Otaki yester. day and secured an easy win over tho homo club.
