OLYMPIC GAMES TEAM

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April C. Tli% amateur athletic representatives for the Olympic Games team were nominated to-day by the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic and Cycling Association. The council had before it the report of the selectors, Messrs T. E. Henry and P. TV. Breen, and announced after a discussion in committee that the following performers would be nominated: —A. J. Elliot (Auckland), S. A. Black (New Plymouth) and -Miss T. Kench (Wellington). Tho actual selection will he done by tho Olympic Association. The council decided to communicate immediately with TV. J. Savidan (Auckland) and C. E. (“Don”) Evans (Tniliape), putting a similar proposition before each. Savidan will be asked to have a trial run over 10,000 metres on or beforo April 30. He will be asked to advise the council not later than April 25 as to the date on which he is ready to have the trial run, and the council will make the necessary, arrangements for proper supervision. The council’s idea in doing this, it is understood, is to satisfy itself as to Savidan’s form. In the case of Evans, in view of his recent illness, the council decided that ho might, if he wished, have a trial run over 800 metres on the same conditions as Savidan. It was recognised that, by reason of the fact that Evans has been in ill-healtlx and has recently undergone an operation, ho was unable to produce his best form at the New Zealand championships in Auckland, or in the recent trial event at the university championships in Wellington. Elliot has been nominated for the 100 and 200-metre events, Black for tho 200 and 400-metre events, and Miss Kcncli for tiro women’s 100-metre event. A. A. Cameron (Otago) was not nominated, and the question of cycling representations was referred to the Cycling Council. The nominations will bo _ forwarded to the New Zealand Olympic and Empire Games Association in time for its meeting on Monday next. Centres of the N.Z.A.A. and C.A. will be asked to submit to the council nominations for recommendation to tho position of manager of the Olympic team.
