MARTON. March 10. Mr and Mrs 11. C. Gronn, two highly respected residents of Marton, celebrated the 50tli anniversary of their wedding this week, when they received congratulations from, their many friends. The Hawkestono Golf Club, which was formed last year, hold its first annual meeting in the Marton Junction School on Monday night, Mr J. A. Bush presiding over a fair attendance. The report showed that despite tho heavy expenditure involved by the organisation of the _ new club, tho finances were in a good position, a fact which reflected credit on the efforts of the executive. It was deemed advisable not to oloct officers just at present, and in consequenco a meeting will be held later at which an election will take place. The pro3idcnt of the Rangitikei Rugby Union, Mr R. C. S. McKenzio, in his annual report states that tho union has had a most successful year in overy way, the competitions being keenly fought out, the standard of Rugby being higher than for soino years and public patronage exceptionally good considering prevailing conditions. Throughout tho season the committee pursued a policy of keeping a tight rein on expenditure, without impairing in any way efficient administration. Tho year commenced with a credit balance of £1 14s lid, with accounts oustanding totalling £23 Is (really a debit balance of £2l 6s Id) shows, with a nett credit balance of £1 13s 9d, which must be considered very satisfactory. . , _ A short sitting of tho Magistrate s Court was held in Marton this morning before Mr R. M. Watson, S.M. Judgment by default was given in the following undefended civil cases: —A. H. Dales v. A. W. Bensemann, £3 15s, costs £1 5e 6d E. J. Edmonds v. R. Sandburne, £1 ss, costs 8s; A. Gracie v. H. Saunders, £7, costs £1 10s 6d; W. A. Bishop v. R. A. Griffin, £2 6s lid, costs £1 3s 6d: S. C. Marr v. P. Cosgrave, £6 5s 6d, costs £1 10s 6d. Alfred Ireland was ordered to pay Wm. Stewart £6 4s Id, with costs 15s 6d, in default 7 days gaol. A similar order was made against Ireland in favour of K. H. Fowler who sought to recover £6 10s Id, with costs 15s 6d. For operating a motorcar without same having a reflector attached,_ or an efficient handbrake, Rangi Kingi was convicted and fined £2 10s, with costs 355. Similarly charged with operating a motor-car without same having an efficient handbrake, William Williams was fined 30s with 22s costs. Malcolm Hunt, charged with riding a cycle at night without a light, was convicted and fined 10s with 10s costs.
