PUBLIC WORKS CAMP.
SITE IN MANAWATU. Notification was received by the Palmerston North Unemployment Committee to-day that the Public Works Department had decided to establsih an unemployment relief, camp in the Makerua Drainage Board’s- area, where it was proposed to engage 100 men upon the straightening of Coley’s Bend. ,Mr J. Lowden (secretary) said he. did not know whether the men would be brought from Wellington or not. ; Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., said he thought the implication for the work had been made originally to the Foxton Committee.
Mr Mansford said that inquiries should be made immediately with the object of placing men from Palmerston North in the camp. Mr Lowden said the object in establishing it might be to relieve the situation in Wellington.
