The weather conditions were not very favourable to-day for play in the Manawatu Bowling Centre’s annual champion of champions' pairs competition. Light rain fell at intervals and the prospects for this afternoon'' were not good. The Terrace End green, where the games were played, was in good order, but the wind was disconcerting. Thirteen pairs from clubs affiliated to the centre took, part, and Mr A. F. Wimsett was. in charge of the competition. Results are as follow: FIRST ROUND.
Palmerston North (Mowlem and Bary, skip) 29 v Northern (Stallard and Larcomb, skip) 22. . Shannon (Moakes and Morgan, skip) 25 v. Oroua (Aitken and Simpson, skip) 14. , Feilding (Williamson and Ranby, skip) 20 v. Foxton (Roore and Thompson, skip) 12. Levin (Langelan and Monk, skip) 25 v. Woodville (James and Cuming, skip) 24. . . , Terrace - End (Christiansen and Johnson, skip) 16 v. Takaro (Morgan and Tantrum, skip) 15. Takaro were lying two in the latter match for a win when Johnson trailed the kitty for a single to gain the victory for Terrace End. , i Eketahuna (Winks and Mead, skip); Manawatu (Gilbert and Barnes, skip) and Dannevirke (Osborne and Tatere, skip) had byes in the first round.
RECENT VISIT TO WELLINGTON. Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., president of the Manawatu Bowling Centre, has written to the Wellington Bowling Centre and the Wellington, Island Bay, Thorndon and Victoria Clubs, expressing thanks for the hospitality received by the 64 bowlers of the. Manawatu ■ Centre, and their ladyfriends, on the occasion of their visit last Wednesday.
