DEVELOPING NATIVE LAND.
BLOCK NEAR HAIRINI
TAURANGA, Dec. 1
The Minister of Native Affairs, Sir Apirana Ngata, visited the Hairini native settlement, near Tauranga, accompanied by Mr Tai Mitchell, chairman of the Ara Trust Board, in connection with the proposal to develop tlie Kaitimako block, an area of about 700 acres near Hairini, on the east coast main highway. Tlie Minister inspected the area and announced his intention of proceeding with the work. He intimated that a start would be made in clearing the block. It is estimated that the scheme will give employment to about 30 natives for about 12 months. The Kaitimako is the only block to be dealt with at present, but with that scheme accomplished tbo development of other blocks should follow.
