SELF-HELP AT STRATFORD.
PREMIER COMMENDS SCHEME. (By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 19. The Prime Minister, in a statement to the “Standard’s” correspondent, heartily commends the Stratford SelfHelp Club which has been formed to assist in a practical way householders to grow their own vegetables and secure firewood.
“This,” Mr Forbes said, “is a very practical way of making provision for next winter. If carried out all over New Zealand it would enable firewood and vegetables to be provided for all married men and also give them useful opportunities of utilising some of their time if unemployed. These items constitute an important factor in the family budget and I hope similar committees will be formed right through New Zealand, for we do not know what we have to meet next winter.”
A message regarding the scheme appears on page 3.
