LAND BALLOT.

Per Press Association. NAPIER, July 23. One of the largest land sales yet held by the Lauds Department was completed in Napier this evening, when some 2165 acres of the Pukekura block, near Te Aute, were leased by ballot. The total number of applicants was 387, of which 237 went to the ballot. Between 300 and 400 persons attended the ballot. The successful applicants were: Section 2: Area 115 acres, capital value £1250, E. H. Annabell, Riverlea, Taranaki; section 3, 107 acres, £ISOO, W. T. Hicks, Otane; section 4, 4250 acres, £3650, E. Campbell, Te Aute; section 5, 84 acres, £ISOO, E. M. Willis, Waipukurau; section 6, 521 acres, £3IOO, Mrs A. O. Heffer, Dannevirke; section 7, 96 acres, £2050, R. E.
