PUBLIC SERVICE SALARIES.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON,' July 24. On his attention being drawn to a newspaper paragraph dealing with State salaries, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes stated definitely that there was no alteration whatever in the policy regarding the granting of annual salary increments throughout the Public Service. The annual scale increments were being granted in accordance with the usual practice. It was quite true that there was no general regrading this year, but it was to be noted that such general regrading of the various State services was by statute, due at intervals of not more than five years, and the question of a general regrading of the service would not require consideration until 1934. Every effort was being made to reduce the expenditure. Rotirlements of officers were being proceeded with, and . new appointmnts had been curtailed to tlie absolute minimum.
