LONGBURN

(From Our Own Correspondent). LONGBURN, July 23. On Tuesday afternoon a sale of work,, arranged by tho Longburn Methodist Ladies’ Guild, and assisted by the trustees of the Church, was held in tho public hall. Tho object was to raise funds for the Home and foreign missions, and in spite of adverse weather conditions, there was a fair attendance, a substantial sum being raised. In charge of the various stalls were: —Needlework: Meedames Clark and Davy; produce, Mrs Aldorsley; afternoon tea, Mrs Birch; Sunbeam stall and sweets, Misses B. Zurcher and. J. Hodgson. In the evening a most enjoyable concert was held, and again the attendance was large. In tho chair was Mr Fisher, who apologised for tho unavoidable absence of Rev. J. D. McArthur. The programme was arranged by Mr Pitcher, choirmaster of the Cuba Street Methodist Chuch, Palmerston North, and was contributed to by members of the Methodist Church choir and their friends. Tho programme was as follows: Part song, “Comrades’ Song of Hope,” the choir; song, “Give Mo Youth”; recital, Miss V. Hansen; song. Miss Morgan; piano duet, Misses Birch and Jackson; song, Maori selection, Miss guitar selection, Miss Perrin; song, Miss Birch; song, Mr J. Perrin; chorus, the choir; song, Mr H. T. Pitcher; vocal duet, and Mr Birch; recital, Miss V. Hansen; guitar selection, Miss Perrin; dialogue, Messrs Screech, senr. and junr.; grand final chorus, the choir.
