WILD DISORDER.
SYDNEY COUNCIL SCENES. Received July 24, 8.5 a.m. SYDNEY, July 24. There were scenes of wild disorder in the City Council at the end of an eight hours’ debate on the Lord Mayor’s salary minute. Labour aldermen stood behind the rails of the chamber jeering while the Lord Mayor, Mr Jackson, denounced them. “Your conduct is an outrage and a disgrace on the public life of this country,” he declared. Cut 3 in the salaries of the civic employees, ranging on a graduated scalo from one-eighth and ono-third per cent, to 25 per cent., in addition to tno reduction of 8 1-3 per cent, now operating, were foreshadowed by the Lord Mayor in the minuto to the aldermen. The pioposals will effect a saving of £131,416 per year. -
