RELIEF WORKS.
UNSKILLED LABOUR. DEPUTATION - ™ MINISTER. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 4. Allegations that local bodies were getting ordinary work done by relief workers at relief rates of pay were mado to-dav by a deputation of the General Labourers’ Federation of New Zealand to Hon. S. G Smith, who was asked to protect the unskilled workers on relief jobs. The Minister, after expressing sympathy with the unemployed, said that he would place the deputation’s representations before Cabinet. The deputation urged the repeal of section 155 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, stating that local bodies were taking an unfair advantage of it.
