TOKOMARU.

(From Our Own Correspondent). TOKOMARU, July 1. Miss M. Broughton, of Levin, is the guest of Mrs A. Wilton. Miss S. Penticost is visiting her brother, Mr H. Pcnticost. Mr and Mrs H. Murdock, of Pahiatua, are tho guests of Mr and Mrs H. Waghorn. Mrs Palmer and family, of of Hastings, are visiting relations in tho district. On Wednesday afternoon the Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting, there being a very good attendance. The members relieved the institute committee by conducting the afternoon. Mrs litcombe presided and Miss McCormack was secretary. The acting-president opened tho meeting by welcoming the now members. Miss J. Booto wan the successful competitor in a competition. Afternoon tea was partaken of, the hostesses being Mrs J. Gilmour, Mrs Gyde and Miss Galloway. Mrs C. Osman gave a very interesting demonstration of silk art work, which was greatly admired by the members. The next item, which caused much merriment, was a mock court under tho control of Mrs PI. Higgins (judge), Mrs Titcombe (prosecuting counsel), Mrs Booto (clerk of the Court), Mrs Gydo and Mrs Peach (policemen in charge). Several of the members wero “fined” for breaking laws and rules of tho Women’s Institute. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded Mrs Osman, the acting-committeo, and also Mrs Webb, tho institute's president. The meeting terminated with the singing of the institute song.. TENNIS BALL. On Tuesday evoning the interior of the Tokomuru Hall, ma-do a picturesque and artistic display. The decorations consisted of multi-coloured streamers and native greenery. The T.T.C. monogram in red and black, tho club’s colours, was the centrepiece in a canopy of blue and pink flowerotte streamers which decorated tho stage. During tho evoning supper was served in the spacious supper room which was also artistically decorated in apricot and pink with native greenery. Later, novelties were distributed among the dancers. The success of the function was duo to tho following committee: —Mrs" Osman, pink georgette and chiffon, velvet bridge coat; Mrs Todd, Paris model, floral blue, and floral blue embossed georgette bridge coat; Miss J. Stokes, black satin and georgette with black hand-painted bridge coat; Miss J. Breo, blue eatin' and net and pink chenille; Mrs S. Kennard, green lace and. pink lace bridge coat.
