An old resident of the Taranaki district, Mr John Wilks, has passed away at Stratford, at the age of 74. Sir James Parr, formerly High Commissioner for New Zealand m London, returned from England yesterday. The friends of Mr R. Eyre, who has been seriously ill for some time, will regret to learn that his condition is causing some anxiety. Rev. S. R. Gardiner, formerly of Napier, who has been in England the last eight years, returned to New Zealand yesterday.

Mr A. T. Donnelly, of Christchurch, chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council, will sail for London in about a month’s time.

Mr J. A. Colquhoun, of the staff of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School, has left for liis home in Otago owing to the serious illness of his mother.

Mr D. A. Glover, who for the past three and a-half years has occupied the position of postmaster at Plimmerton, 'has received advice of his selection to a similar position in the postal service in Western Samoa.

Rev. S. F. Waymouth, formerly of the diocese of Dunedin, who has been for the past three years vicar of Levnka. Fiji, will shortly take up his duties as vicar of Whakatane, in succession to Rev. W. Lambert.

During the morning service at the Cuba Street Methodist Church yesterday, Rev. J. D. McArthur extended a warm welcome to Sir and Mrs T. R. Hodder and Miss Lorna Hodder who returned from abroad last week. The burial of the late Mr A. W. Hall, M.P. for Hauraki, who died in Wellington early on Saturday morning, took place at Papatoetoe, near Auckland, yesterday afternoon. The Government was officially represented at the funeral by the Minister of Health (Hon. A. if. Stallworthy). The Reform Party was represented by Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Mr G. Wilson (president of the Auckland division of the Reform League), and other Parliamentary colleagues of the late Mr Hall; and the Labour Party by Mr W. J. Jordan, M.P. (representing the Leader of the party), and Mr H. G. R. Mason (president of the Labour Party).
