CAR PARTY’S ESCAPE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTOX, April 20,

A motor accident took place on the liimatangi highway about two miles north ot Fox ton on Sunday afternoon which, fortunately, was not tendered by any serious consequences. Mr Massey, of Lower Hutt, was proceeding along the bitumen in the direction of Taikorea on a visit to his father, Mr C. Massey. He had several passengers with him and was followed by Mr Franck Massey, of Taikorea, who was driving a sedan car and who had as passengers Mr and Miss Smith. Mr Francis Massey tried to pass his brother and in doing so pulled the car too far over with the result that the off-side wheel left the bitumen and went into a water culvert which had only recently been dug on the side of the road. When tho driver endeavoured to, regain the road the car somersaulted. The radiator was smashed into the engine, the front mudguards knocked in and the hood, a steel top, badly smashed. Mr Smith escaped with a shaking, Mr Massey with a cut over the eye and a lacerated hand and Miss Smith, who was badly shocked, sustained a cut on tho thigh.
