POWER BOARD’S WORK.
MONTH’S OPERATIONS REVIEWED REPORT BY ENGINEER. “During the month the work of running the pilot wire in Feilding was completed in readiness for connecting up. This will be done as soon as the relays arrive from England; they are due this month, but so far we have not received any advice of shipment,'’ stated Mr W. A. Waters (chief enginer) in his report to the monthly meeting of the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board to-day. “The gangs have been engaged on bolting down all transformers to the platforms, and while this is being done the transformers are being painted, and where necessary new porcelain bushes fitted. Quite a number of porcelain bushes have been found to be broken, some by lightning and others due to transformers shifting owing to earthquakes. The following were given supply during the month: Lighting and heating, 7 ; ranges, 3; water heaters, 4 ; industrial motors, 2 ; miscellaneous motors, 3 ; community lights, 1; additions to existing installations, 36; total 56.
The 400 volt line supplying Moore’s Road is overloaded and it will be necessary to extend the 3300 volt lines about half a mile, and erect a transformer to cope with the increased load. The 60 poles for the Livingstone-Orongopunga Line are arriving this week at Wanganui. and are being railed direct to Hunterville to mininise the cost of cartage to site.”
