GATHERING OF DOCTORS.

CONGRESS TO BE HELD AT GISBORNE.

From 80 to 100 delegates are expected at the annual conreience of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, which will commence at Gisborne on February 24 and conclude on February 28. Gisborne has never previously been chosen as the meeting-place of the conference, but the division of the association in that town has arrangements well in hand, both from a business and a social point of view. New Zealand’s leading practitioners in medicine and surgery are expected at the conierence, as well as Professor Marshall Allan, professor of obstetrics at Melbourne University. Dr. Bright Bannister, of London, a prominent obstetrician, was to have provided two of .the addresses, but he is unable to attend, and Professor Allan will take his place. Dr. Swift, of Seattle, United States of America, was to have been another overseas yisitor, but recent information indicates Iris inability to attend. He was to have given an address on epilepsy on the first day of the conference, but so far no arrangements have been made to fill his place. The first of the visitors is expected to arrive at Gisborne on Sunday, February 22, and on the Tuesday evening the delegates will be accorded a civic reception in the Opera House. Addresses of welcome will be given by the Mayor and Sir Apirana Ngata. Later at the City Hall the Gisborne division of the B.M.A. will entertain the visitore at a social. The conference proper will commence next day in the V.M.C.A. Hall, concluding on the Saturday morning with the annual general meeting and the departure of the visitors for SVaikaremoana. Throughout the conference there will be a round of social attractions.
