CHRISTIAN STUDENTS.
•CONFERENCE AT FEILDING. The 28th summer conference of the New Zealand Student Christian Movement is being continued in Feilding, the conference having opened on Tuesday night, when an address was given by the chairman, Mr G. M. McKenzie, on “The Challenge of Christianity.” The conference continued its work on New Year’s Eve, when an address was delivered, by Rev. R. AA r atson, of AA’ellington, who spoke on the various aspects of the calling of the minister. “There are,” said the speaker, in closing, “many diyourage. ments in our lives, but surmounting all these comes the great joy which comes from Creation, Redemption and Service. These are the abiding things.” The address at the evening session dealt with the calling of medicine, and was delivered by Dr. AA r . P. Gordon, of Stratford. Dr. Gordon said that the medical profession offered endless possibilities for service but he would not be honest if he did not say that it was a hard life, hazardous, full of pitfalls and beset with many soul-eramping temptations. “But if Christianity is to mean anything to the world in general. there will always be a call for men to live their Christianity as teachers, doctors, and, I may add, lawyers.” Dr. Gordon added that, just as the really great lawyer had a passion for justice, the real great clergvman had a passion for goodness, so the really great doctor had a passion for health. In conclusion, Dr. Gordon said that what the world needed were men who, in their lives as teachers, lawyers, road-mend-ers, would put into practice the principles of Christian living and so give the world a practical demonstration of what ministers were trying to teach.
