ENDURANCE SWIM.
MISS' GLEITZE BREAKS RECORD.
WELLINGTON, Jan. 3. In the presence of a large number of spectators, Miss 'Mercedes Gleitze, the celebrated English lady swimmer, succeeded in the tepid baths yesterday afternoon in breaking the European ladies’ record, of 42 hours previously held by herself by half an hour. She was in the water from 8.35 p.m. on Wednesday until 3.5 p.m. yesterday. Her effort was the finest of its kind ever seen in New Zealand.
