MOTOR ACCIDENT.
CAR STRIKES POLE. A narrow escape from a serious accident occurred on Rangitikei Line this morning at 1D.40 o’clock. Mrs W. Phillips, of Alexander Street, Palmerston North, was proceeding along Rangitikei Line from the city, in a big car, and in order to avoid a collision with a vehicle coming out of Mr E. W. Collins’s gate, on the left hand side of the road, pulled over to the right, and then almost met another car coming towards town. Mrs Phillips, to avoid the second collision, had to immediately turn sharply to the left, but failed to straighten up again, and hit one of the power poles, doing considerable damage to the bumper and the front of the car. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the impact brought down both the high voltage and low voltage power lines, at the same time breaking the cross arms and knocking the ironbark pole about ten feet out of plumb. The automatic equipment at Bunnythorpe cut off the power supply, and by 11 'o’clock a gang from the Power Board were on the scene effecting repairs.
