FLOOD CONTROL SCHEME.
BASIS OF RATING. CLASSIFICATION COMPLETE. With the submission to-day of the classification list for rating purposes to the Manawatu-Oroua River Board, the arrangements for proceeding with: the modified flood control scheme for which the Government has made available £IOO,OOO, were brought nearer fruition. The matter was dealt with at a special meeting held to-day, when Mr W. S. Carter presided, others present being Messrs H. J. T. Hume, C. Speirs, R. Harrison, B. G. Gower, W. Barber and F. C. Hay (engineer). The board’s engineer submitted the classification scheaule and plan. He recommended ratios as follow : —Class
I A, 23; Class B, 18; Class C, 14; Class ' D, 10; Class E, 8; Class F, 6; Class •G, 4. The rates per acre on that basis' as finally classified were: Class i A, 10s Id; Class B, ..7s lid; Class C, 6s 2d; Class D, 4s sd; Glass E, 3s 6d; | Class F, 2s 7d; Class G, Is 9d. | The board adopted the report and §k signified its approval of the ratios §l, proposed. The classification will come BBl'up for adoption at a later meeting Bphiter mature consideration. Bhbj It was suggested that at the incepP' tion of the scheme the board might p/lrave to strike a maintenance rate, in jp order to prevent diminution of loan moneys available for the main scheme. It- The board resolved to raise a special If loan of £2663 13s 4d to carry out work if on Coley’s bend, the security to be 3Jd fe. per acre on all rateable land classed A in the No. 3 separate area (Mak- | erua sub-division of the . Manawatu.- | Oroua River area).
