THEFTS ADMITTED.
YOUNG MAN CONVICTED. . TERM OF PROBATION. Five charges of theft were admitted by Hector Donald Dawson, a'traveller, aged 23, who appeared for sentence before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M.V in the Palmerston North Police Court yesterday. At the hearing on Monday accused pleaded guilty to failing to account for 18s 6d to Percy Cockford, thereby committing theft; also to failure to account for 5s to W. Robert Sorbie, £5 19s 6d to .Gordon Hatton and £l3 13s 6d to Francis • Parsons. He was also charged with the theft of a camera, valued at £4, the property of the Farmers’ Trading Co., Ltd. The Magistrate said that the probation officer’s report was not altogether satisfactory, but a recommendation was made that accused be given a chance; as this was the first time that Dawson had been before the Court. His Worship said that he was going to carry the recommendation into effect, and imposed a term of two years’ probation. Accused would require to make restitution of the money within six months and. to return to his home at Foxton and work. “I am giving you this chance, so make the best of it,” said His Worship. “If you do not stay in Foxton and work, or fail to refund the money, you are liable to be brought before the Court again.”
