PRIMARY SCHOOLS.
RUGBY TOURNAMENT. Tho annual primary schools’ Rugby tournament is this year being held in Palmerston North. Last year it was held in Wanganui, the previous year in Wellington, Wairarapa in 1927, and Manawatu in 1926. Representative primary teams from the above districts take part, each team playing three matches. Various entertainments have been arranged for the boys during their visit here, not the least of which is a dinner at which tho banner is tio be presented to the winning team. Last year Wanganui proved to be the winning team. This year Alanawatu has a good all-round team und will make a big bid for the banner. The team includes three boys from Rangiotu, three from Sanson and three frevn ' Feilding, and these boy s have very considerably strengthened tho team. Three conditions govern the tournament- —(1) The boys must be primary school boys; (2) they must be under 15 years of ago on the first day of the tournament, and (3) they must bo under 9st 71bs. The first two matches will be played at tho Showgrounds on Saturday morning, August 23rd, and some really good football is guaranteed tiiose who can witness the games. As the ‘visit of these three teams' involves considerable expense on the part of the home union, efforts are being made to aid tho financial situation by the sale of tickets admitting to the ground. On Saturday next the local representatives are having a try-out against the Rangitikei boys at Taihape. This should prove a useful preliminary as a high standard of football prevails in the Rangitikei schools and the local team will be on tho way to an understanding of each other’s i>lay before they begin their series of three matches. Two games will be played on Saturday, August 23rd, two on Monday, 25th, and the final two on. Wednesday, 27th, on which day the banner will be presented.
