PAHIATUA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) PAHIATUA, May 13. His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. 1). Wilson) presided over tho usual monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council held last evening. Also present were Crs W. H. Murch, J. Murphy, P. It. Boagey, F. Britland, W. T. Brown, A. D. Donald and P. Tulloch. Leave of absence was granted to Crs A. Roes and J. C. Davidson.' With reference to tho Aero Club’s landing ground, an offer was received from the owner of tho property, proposed as a landing ground, to lease tho same to the local bodies for a term of five years. Tho total area involved was .35 acres. The Mayor said he noticed that tho Pahiatua County Council had simply “received 1 the report. He would like to see something dono in the matter and would be very sorry to see it let slide. Other councillors wore of tho same opinion and it was decided to hold tho matter over for further negotiation. A committee comprising Crs Donald, Boagey and Tulloch was set up to frame a by-law dealing with parking areas in the town for cars. A list of heavy traffic few, allocated for tho quarter by the Masterton County Council, showed that tho borough’s share was £134 4s lid, while that allowed to tho County Council was £392 18s 7d. In reply to a protest by the borough at the amount of the allocation, the Mastorton County Council advised that it had been fixed at a conference of all local bodies in No. 12 Heavy Traffic District Jield in July, 1926, and until such local bodies demanded that tho existing allocations bo reconsidered tho present arrangement would remain in'force. The communication was received. The rccroation ground committee recommended that a 100 gallon tank bo erected by each of the dressing sheds on the recreation ground and that the Basket Ball Club be allowed the use of one of tho asphalt tennis courts in the Post Office Square. These recommendations were adopted. The Mayor was deputed to represent the Borough Council at a public enquiry to bo held with regard to town planning at Masterton on May 30th. The borough treasurer’s report showed a credit balance of £979 4s 4d as at Ist May, 1930. In speaking to the report, tho Mayor stated that that credit was about £7O less than at the same period last year. The finances would have to be conserved _as thero would bo very little revenue coming in until October next. Accounts totalling £599 19s were passed for payment. The borough ranger during the month of April impounded 7 horses and 11 head of cattle. Last evening in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Schoolroom a social was held by the choir and friends in honour of Mis 3 M. Grocott, dental nurse, who has been transferred to Feilding. In the unavoidable absence of Rev. A. F. Sutherland, who was indisposed, Mr W. R. Richardson presented to Miss Grocott, on behalf of the choir, a handsome crystal powder bowl, at the same time alluding to the great assistance sho had been to the church as a member of the choir. They were sorry to Lose her and hoped that the small token of their esteem would often remind her of friends in Pahiatua. Tho recipient suitably responded. Items and games, together with a dainty supper supplied by the Indies, made up a very enjoyable gathering. Those who contributed to the programme were Mrs Wilson (Dunedin), Miss Collister, Mrs Mclnnes and Messrs W. Greaves and L. Wales. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” concluded a very enjoyable evening.
