COURT PROCEEDINGS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) MARTON, May 13. Obtaining credit by fraud to tho extent of £2 5s from the keeper of the Railway Hotel, Marton Junction, led to the appearance in Court to-day of Daniell John Ernest Ingram Mclntyre, aged 30, a labourer, who was sentenced to one month in prison. Messrs 11. J. Cameron and J. Mogridgo, J.P.’s presided. Arthur Charles Fowler Gibb was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond in that he had insufficient lawful visible means of support. The police stated that accused had thrieo previously been convicted for being idle and disorderly. Accused pleaded not guilty and wa4 remanded for n week. Later accused informed tho police that he would plead guilty, and on being brought up a second time in Court ho was sentenced to three months’ imprisonmenn. FOLLOWING THE HOUNDS. The Rangitikei Hunt held a most enjoyable run at Carson’s Corner on Saturday, a large following being out. Tho hunting was keen and provided good sport, one hare boing killed. Among the followers wero: Deputy-masters W. J. Simpson, H. J. Cameron, J. Brice, and F. McLean; huntsman, Mr A. Goodwin; hon. whips, Messrs W. Wilson and B. Simpson; Misses B. Gaisford, M. MEN’S HOCKEY CLUB. An enthusiastic meoting of men hockey players was hold last evening for the purpose of forming a men’s club for the Wednesday competitions under the control of the Feilding Hockey Association. Mr A. Gracie presided, and after a brief discussion a club was formed. The first offico -bearers are: Patron, Mr Alex Stuart; president, Mr A. Gracie; vice-presidents, Messrs A. T. Oatrell, G. Avery, J. Mogridge and A. Way; secretary and treasurer, Mr O. Ledingham ; committee, Messrs G. Sneddon, A. Gracie, junr., E. Smart, A. Smart, G. McKay and J. Le Comte. The club’s colours will be black. The local ladies have three strong teams in action this year and much is hoped of the men’s club. BOROUGH COUNCIL. A small order paper engaged the attention of members at a meeting of the Marton Borough Council last evening. There were present the Mayor (Mr J l '. Purnell) and Crs. G. B. Gregory, R. J. Moore, A. McKenzie, T. Barton, J. D. Gorrie, A. J. B. Sicely, 11. J. Cameron and W. B. Langstone. The overseer (Mr W. R. Brant) reported on general maintenance work done during tho last month. The treasurer stated that the receipts totalled £6BB. Building permits covering expenditure of £194 wero issued. The secretary of the Oroua Hockey Association applied for permission to use tile western playing area of tho Municipal Park until Septemoer and the matter was referred to Crs. Gorrie and McKenzie. The Minister of Internal Alfairs advised, in reply to the council’s protest qt being linked with Palmerston North in a regional planning inquiry, that tire council’s representatives could attend either tho Wanganui or Palmerston North conferences.—The Mayor and Cr. Sicely were appointed delegates. PERSONAL. Mr H. M. McCallum is a Taihape visitor to Auckland. Miss McCormick, of the stall of the Taihape District High School, who is leaving shortly for England, was presented by the staff and pupils with a purse. Mr C. Masters has heen elected W.M. of the Otaihape Masonic Lodge. Mrs Haydon is a Taihape visitor to Palmerston North. Messrs R. A. Gower, F. G. Thorby and J. Terry, of Ohingaiti, are making a fishing and snooting trip to Taupo and Tokaanu. GENERAL. It was reported at a meeting of tho Taihape St. Patrick’s Day Sports Cluu that a profit of £lO3 was made on the last meeting. At the weekly shoot of tho Ohingaiti Ladies’ Ride Club, Mrs Paget headed the list with a score of 28—2—30.
