HOME IN FLAMES.
EARLY MORNING FIRE. . MUCH DAMAGE DONE. Shortly after midnight, the Palmerston North Fire Brigade was called to the six-roomed dwelling of Mr F. L. Orchard in Featherston Street East, beyond Ruahine Street, to find the home blazing fiercely. The alarm had been given from a street box at the corner. When the outbreak was discovered the flames had a strong hold, but jn half-an-hour had been subdued, though not before the greater part of the dwelling hact been extensively gutted. The house was unoccupied, the owner' being out of town, and the origin of the fire, which began at the rear of the dwelling, is a mystery. The outbreak was not noticed until the flames shot from the roof. There are understood to be insurance policies both over the house and furniture, but full details are not available.
