Mr Garde Grimshaw is .at present in Gisborne where he is singing tor the Gisborne Orchestral Society. At the meeting of the Pohangina County Council yesterday a resolution of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mr T. Roulston. Rev. H. F. Wilson, vicar of Paraparaumu, will visit All Saints Church during the week-end. From ~ 1902 Rev. Mr Wilson was an assistant curate at All Saints’ and will be remembered by the older parishioners. Advice has been received to the effect that Rev. H. S. Kenney, formerly oije of the clergy of Ail Saints Church, has passed his entrance examination which entitles him to enter Cambridge University to further his studies. Mr .Wm. Watters left to-day for Dunedin, where he sings on xuejaay sext with the Dunedin Choial Sccieo in their production of “Elip’h Mr Watters has also been engaged to sing in “Maritana” with the Wanganui Choral Society on June 18th. Miss Naomi Whalley has been engaged as soloist by the Royal Auckland Choir for their concert on Thursday next, 22nd May. Miss Whalley will also sing the soprano solos in the Wellington Royal Choral Union s pioduetin of “Carmen” on May 31st. Appreciation of the work of Cr. S. J. Strahan (chairman) during the past year was expressed at the monthly meeting of the Pohangina County Council yesterday when nis term of office closed, and it was decided to place on record his valuable services. Crs. H. Knight and W. Howell paid tributes to Cr. Strachan’s work. At a meeting of the Hobson (North Auckland) Electric Power Board, Mr George Rhodes, assistant secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board, was appointed secretary of the newly-constituted board There were 109 applicants. Mr J. A., McLean, who has been chairman of the old board for the past six years, was elected chairman of the new board. Mr Orton S. Hintz, of the New Zealand Herald literary staff, has been appointed by the New Zealand Press Association to tour England with the New Zealand cricketers in 1931. In addition to writing for the Press Association, Mr Hintz will contribute a series of special articles to a syndicate of papers. Born in Hawera 23 years ago, Mr Hintz was educated at the Auckland and Mount Albert Grammar Schools, and later continued his studies at the Auckland University College. He joined the Auckland Herald six years ago and, in addition to reporting cricket, has actively participated in the game as a member of the Eden senior B team. Mr Hintz, who is the only son of Mr A. A. Hintz, of the Curran Street School, will leave New Zealand with the representative team in March next. The appointment is regarded as a great compliment to him.
