ANOTHER MAN’S BOOTS. TAKEN FROM HOTEL. Following the disappearance of a pair of boots from an hotel bar yesrterday, and their subsequent location at a second-hand dealer’s shop, inquiries led to the apprehension of Alexander Wild, a labourer aged 53. He pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when charged before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., with stealing a pair of boots valued at 32s 6d, the property of Stephen Stewart Spiers. Senior-Sergeant Whitehouse stated that at 4.45 p.m. yesterday complainant entered an hotel and placed liis working boots on the floor beside him. When he turned round later he found they had disappeared. Subsequently. they were found in a sec-ond-hand dealer’s shop, where they had been sold for two shillings. Accused had frankly admitted taking them from the floor. He had stated that he saw no ostensible owner, so ho took them away and sold them. Nothing previous was known against him.

“I would like you to give me a chance, your Worship,” said accused. “I have never been before the Court before. This would never have happened had I not been drinking?” His Worship: Have you any work to go to ? Accused : I have been trying to obtain a job. Accused was ordered to come up for sentence at any time. within six months if called upon.
