FEILDING

MEAT INDUSTRY DISPUTE. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, Alay 9. The fact that the Alunicipal Association had concerned itself in the settling of disputes between freezing companies and butchers was stated last night by the Alayor at the meeting of tho Feilding Borough Council. The matter had exercised the minds of the executive of tho association for some time and, in obedience to a request, tho last meeting of tho executive had set up a committee consisting of the Mayors of Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Masterton and Feilding to meet the representatives of tho industry and Air J. O’Shea in conference when it was hoped that these difficulties, insofar as they affected' municipalities, would be settled. FEILDING’S VALUATION. An appeal that the members of the council carefully consider the spending of money when requests for new works, in addition to those on the estimates, came before their committees, was made by tho Mayor at the Feilding Borough Council meeting last night. The last valuation of tho borough, the Alayor continued, gave Feilding an unimproved value of £535,000, but since then appeals lodged and granted by the Assessment Court had resulted in that sum being lowered by £IB,OOO. This meant a loss of £6OO per year in rates to the council, and as the matter had gone on for throe years, councillors would see that the position merited attention, and for this reason Air Taylor appealed to them to help the council to live within its income.
