(From Our Own Correspondent.) PAHIATUA, April 9. Last evening there was a large attendance of delegates representing eight clubs, as' well as many Rugby enthusiasts present at the annual meeting of the Lush Rugby Union. Air R. Smith; senior selector, Mr R. J. Smith; junior selectors, Aiessrs H. J, Luoni and Clarkson; third grade, Messrs D. Gallagher and W. Ryan; management committee, Messrs E. L. Harvey, W. Ryan, A. Bentley, C. Connell, A. Henry, G. Gregory and H. Mason. The delegate to the N.Z. Rugby Union was instructed to vote for tho old kiek-into-touch rulo and that no other union have dispensation such as the Auckland Union had had on a previous occasion. Strong comment was made on the high prices fixed for tho British matches by the New Zealand Union. It was stated that the wholo tour was estimated to cost £17,000, yet the four tests alone would produce this amount. Mr Smith, as delegate to the New Zealand Rugby Union, was instructed to vote for the broadcasting of British matches whether the Broadcasting Company agreed to contribute anything or not. The secretary explained that, in viow of the fact that the New Zealand Union had expressed itself desirous of helping minor unions in financial difficulios, he had applied for a donation of £SO. In reply he had been informed that the union did not think the circumstances justified a grant of £SO. Disappointment was expressed at the reply, it being mentioned that unions 6uch as Waikato, Southland and Bay of Plenty had received a grant. An invitation was received from the Marlborough Rugby Sub Union for the local union to 6end a team to a seven-a-side tournament to be held at Easter. It was decided to inaugurate a fourth grade competition with an age limit of 16 years, and that the third grade competition havo no age or weight limit. It was decided that the cup competitions commence on Saturday, May 3rd, nominations to close on 26th April, 1930. The amount collected locally for the obstetrical appeal is £B2 4s, including the sum of £5 collected by Mrs David Crewe, which was sent direct to headquarters. Further amounts in sight are about £l2. At the annual meeting of the British and Foreign Bible Society (Pahiatua branch) Mrs H. Paterson presided - over a good attendance of members. In presenting tho report Alisa M. Grocoot (secretary). stated that there was an increase of £l2 in the collections for 1929, the amount being £74 lls 4d. Tho following officers were elected-.—President, Mrs H. Paterson, to whom a very high tribute was paid for her tireless efforts on behalf of tho society; secretary, Miss I AI. Grocott, to whom a vote of thanks was passed for her secretarial work; "vice-presidents, Mesdames G. V. Gerard, J. D. C. Crewe, Tyleo, W. B. Pickering, and A. F. Sutherland. Collectors numbering 29 were appointed. After the election of officers the president entertained those present at afternoon tea. Mrs Porter, secretary to the society, delivered an address in which she thanked the local branch for its cordial welcome and praised the work of the lady collectors on behalf of tho socioty. 1
