TRAIN ROBBERY
POLICE PUZZLED. • INTENSIVE SEARCH CASHBOX FOUND. (United. Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). Received April 10, 11 a.m. SYDNEY, Aprij 10. An intensive search by detectives in the vicinity of the Mudgee train robbery failed to reveal a single clue. The amazing getaway of the thieves is puzzling the police. The stolen bag had about £SOOO in cash and £13,000 in cheques, which have been cancelled.
A telegram has been received from Binnaway, 200 miles from the scene of the holdup, stating that a railway cash-box, identical with the one stolen, was found on the side of the road. The cashbox is being sent back to Sydney. ■ It was possible for the bandits to cover this distance by car between the time of the robbery and the hour at which the cashbox was found. The money represented a portion of the railwaymen’s pay. The police in the Penrith district came upon two men camped on the bank of the Nepean River. Both were arrested, one for having an unlicensed revolver, and the other for vagrancy. Both were remanded.
