RATEPAYERS’ PETITION.
CONDITION OF ALBERT STREET, REFERRED TO ESTIMATES. Signod by fifty-two ratepayers and residents, a petition was forwarded to the Palmerston North Borough Council last evening drawing attention the condition ot Albert Street and the dust nuisance caused by heavy metal traffic to and from the river. The signatories requested that the surface of the road be tarred from Main Street to. Featlierston Street. It was suggested that the matter should be referred to the estimates. “If we do half the work during the coming year which is referred to the estimates we shall be doing well,” commented Cr Eliott. The Mayor: We cannot do anything else. Cr Eliott: It is the easiest way of shelving it. . t Cr Clausen stated that ho had a complaint to make. The Mayor: There are a Jot of complaints. The more we do the more some people want. Cr Hodgens: This petition has been a long-standing matter. The street has received little attention. I sincerely trust that it is not going to be referred to the estimates with the ulterior motive suggested of shelving it. The Mayor stated that the work should be done during the, coming year.
