AUCKLAND THEFTS.

BAG SNATCHERS AT WORK. AUCKLAND, April 5. Two women had bags containing valuables snatched out of their shopping baskets in the city last night. While standing on a safety zone at about nine o’clock, Mrs Evelyn Roper, of Sandrigham,' felt a tug at her kit basket, but thought that someone had bumped into her. It was not until she boarded a tram that she discovered that her purse was stolen from her basket. The purse contained £8 15s, made up of one £5 note, three £1 notes, and 15s in silver, as well as a key of her house. The bulk of the money was her husband’s wages, which he had handed to . her. In the excitement of watching a motor-car accident in the bustle of the 5.30 o’clock rush last evening, Miss M. Atkins, of Grafton, had her handbag snatched out of a basket which she carried on her arm. She lost about £3 10s in money, and a trinket box containing about ten threepenny bits—“lucky” ones, which she had collected from Christmas cakes.
