COAL INDUSTRY
PAYMENT OF DOLE TO CEASE. ANOTHER CONFERENCE. DECISIONS BY N.S.AV. CABINET. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received February 25, 10.45 a.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 25. The State Cabinet has decided to cease payment of the dole to the miners and their dependants, also to withdraw tho offer of two shillings per ton remission of Government charges in the transport of coal, and to summon immediately a further conference of all parties to renew the negotiations for resumption. It is not indicated that the relief will be stopped forthwith, but the Premier, Air T. R. Bavin, has issued a warning to the effect that the payment cannot continue indefinitely. If an agreement is reached between the parties, the Government will be prepared to assist the coal industry by making a reasonable reduction in the transport charges. The Government proposes to seek the co-operation of the employers and employees in attempting to solve the problems, including financial and economic, now facing the coal industry.
Cabinet made the above decisions after considering the financial and industrial position, which is reflected in the unprecedented unemployment throughout the Commonwealth.
