(From Our Own Correspondent). RANGIOTU, Feb. 24.
Tho local tennis club played Rongotea here last Saturday under ideal weather conditions and defeated tho visitors by live sets to four Unfortunately, Rongotea were unable to muster their full forces in the matter of lady players, and consequently the latter did not take any active part in the match. -Nevertheless, a pleasant day’s outing was thoroughly enjoyed. Special thanks are due to Mr and Mrs T. Donaldson and Mrs S. Graham for their excellent arrangements in connection with tho afternoon tea. Tho following are tho detailed results, Rongotea being mentioned first: —Men’s singles; W. Fenwick 7 T. J. Walker 6; K. O. Tunnycliffe 5, W. Larkins 7; J. Liggins 7, M. Saywell 6; R. Buchanan 7, K. Beard 5; J. Richfield 3, J. A. Shaw 7; E. Tunnyclifle 2, 11. Chapman 7. Men’s doubles: W. Fenwick and K. TunnyclifTe 7, L. J. Walker and W. Larkins 2: J. Liggins and R. Buchanan 6, M. Saywell and IC. Beard 7; E. Tunnycliffe and J. Richfield 5, J. A. Shaw anil 11. Chapman 7. Excellent progress in connection with tho improvements to the local hall lias already been made and when the work is completed the community will have a building that will bo a credit to the district. A complete transformation of the inner appearance of the hall is now much in evidence. Tho whole work is expected to be completed by March 20. At a special meeting of the hall society held last week it was decided to hold an opening ceremony on April 9. It was unanimously resolved that the function be in the form of a concert and dance. It was decided that Mr J. Linklater, M.P. for the electorate, be asked to be present that evening. The local school will be holding its annual picnic next Friday. The wedding of Mr PI. Whiteman (Tiny), of Mangatainoka, late of Rangiotu, took place last Saturday to Miss G. Harper, of Bulls.
