ITALIAN MINERS GASSED
THREE LOSE THEIR LIVES
Received June 4, 10.20 a.m. MELBOURNE, June 4
Overcome by gas in the Jumbunna coal mine, three Italian miners died before they could be rescued.
The manager of the mine had previously warned the men that tho air was foul, but they disregarded his advice. The manager returned to the mine and saw two miners who were partially gassed being attacked by a third who had apparently lost his senses. The manager, feeling the effects of tho gas himself, went for assistance. The bodies were later brought to the surface.
