BOXING

LECKIE BEATS GRIME. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). SYDNEY, March 31. At the Stadium last night Johnny Lickie (8.11 i) (New Zealand) beat Billy Uriine (9.0) (Australia), in the fourteenth round. The New Zealander was faster and cleverer and his hurricanelike blows reached Grime from all directions. The big crowd sensed the passing of the champion, as apart from the fifth and seventh rounds, in which the Australian had rather the better of the points, the New Zealander • piled up his 'tally steadily. Grime was cautioned in the eleventh round for butting, and later accidentally landed an illegal tap, but Leckie, after a moment’s pause, ; offered his hand, and the bout proceeded. The last three rounds saw Leckie ■fighting like a demon, but the Australian was tough and lasted until the fourteenth, when the New Zealander’s punches told their tale. A right to the jaw sent Grime down for nine. He got up, bufwas immediately floored. He got to his feet again at the count of" six, only to be dropped once more. The police then intervened. The exchampion was badly battered.
