CITY TENDERS.
AUCKLAND RESOLUTION. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 30. Dissatisfaction with the prices quoted to the City Council by tenderers for shingle, sand and shell was expressed by Cr. W. Casey at Thursday’s meeting. He moved, “that no tender be accepted and that the supplies be bought on the open market.” “This looks more like co-operation than competition,” asid Cr. T. Bloodworth in citing a sample of material, for the supply of which the tendered prices were 18s Bd, 18s 9d, 19s 2d and 18s lid. He observed that there were other cases with only a few pence separating the tenders. Cr. Casey’s amendment was carried, whereupon Cr. Allum moved another amendment, “that fresh tenders be called.”
The latter was carried by ten votes to nine and, on being put to the meeting was as the substantive motion, was carried. Cr. Casey then gave notice to rescind it.
