A hacksaw was evidently used. The task must have occupied several days. Soap was used in the cuts in order to avoid detection. The man scaled the Wall surrounding the gaol—the wall is 30 feet high—and climbed oyer the roofs_ of several buildings. This is the second occasion the same man has escaped from custody.
