SCHOOL PICNIC. (From Our Own Correspondent.) CARNARVON, Feb. 28. Tho annual picnic of the Clydesdale School was held in Mr J. Gibbons’s grounds last Saturday when, favoured with perfect weather conditions, thero was a large attendance of children apd their parents. During tho day a lengthy sports programme was run off and various games were played. Just before afternoon tea was partaken of the presentation of prizes took place, each child receiving a book as a gift from tho committee, while the following wero awarded special prizes: Mrs P. Scott's for conduct, Betty Aggett; Mr P. Scott’s for conduct, Bert Maxwoll; Mr G. H. Bennett’s for progress, Tom McKenzie; committee’s for sewing, Ethna Hill; Miss Harris’s for diligence- in outside environment work, Anna Hodge and Maisie Teague; attendance certificates, •Isabel Scott, Ethna Hill, Stan Quinlan, Ted Quinlan, Jim Webby, Vernon McKenzie. Mr G. R. McKenzie, chairman of the school committee, in' addressing the gathering, thanked all those who had helped in any way towards making the picnio so enjoyable and congratulated the taclier, Miss Harris, on tho success of the past year’s work, mentioning that of the four proficiency candidates three had been successful and ono had gained competency. The speaker then 6tated his pleasure at the presence of Mr and Mrs J. McKelvie, who had at all times maintained a keen interest in the school and the children, the former having been chairman of the committee over a lengthy period of years. Ho then asked Mrs McKelvie to accept from the past and present pupils a handsome picturo and Mr McKelvie an electric torch, suitably inscribed, as a slight recognition of their interest during the past and called for cheers for them. Mr McKelvie suitably responded on behalf of his wife and himself.
