ORDER OF ST. JOHN.
WELLINGTON RESIDENT HONOURED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 27. The hon. secretary of the Dominion executive of the St. John Ambulance has just received a communication from Colonel R. C. Bingham, secretary of the historic Order of St. John of Jerusalem, that H. R. H. Hie Duke of Connaught and the. Chapter-General, has, with the sanction of His Majesty the King, admitted Mr W. W. Dutton of' Wellington, as a member of the Order of St. John for devoted service to the Ambulance Department and its subsidiary Red Cross branch. Mr Dutton is widely known for his spirit of gratuitous service towards the sporting community and the honour referred to entitles him to wear the famous eight-pointed star instituted by King Baldwin 810 years ago during the Crusades. ~ With a view of modernising tiie venerable Order of St. John, King George recently commanded Sir W. Joynson-Hieks, the Home Secretary, to intimate that the Order will m future bear and use according to the laws of arms the armorial bearings, viz., gules, a cross argent, in the first quarter a representation of His Majesty’s crest. His Excellency Sir Charles Ferguson is to bo asked to present the insignia of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem to Mr Dutton.
