A proposal that the new Art Gallery, which is being presented to the city of Christchurch, should be erected on the place where the wooden portion of the Provincial Council Buildings now stands was made to the Mayor, Rev. J. K. Archer, yesterday, by members of the special committee set up by the Citizens’ Association to the matter. The Mayor assured the deputation that the Art Gallery committee was not tied to the site in the gardens, and there was no objection to the deputation taking steps with a view to endeavouring to persuade the Government to hand over the land to the city.
